These include deep reef dives, drift dives and dramatic wall dives, making this area one of the most exciting locations for scuba diving on the Costa Tropical.
All dives are planned according to the prevailing sea and weather conditions on the day, ensuring both safety and the best possible diving experience.
We currently have three dive sites accessible by boat, each offering unique underwater landscapes and marine life. However, it often takes many dives to fully explore and appreciate everything these Punta de la Mona dive sites have to offer.
1. Tres Picos ( Three peaks) – 20 Mtrs
Tres Picos, meaning “Three Peaks”, is one of the most impressive dive sites around Punta de la Mona near La Herradura. The site takes its name from three large underwater rock formations that rise dramatically from the seabed, creating striking underwater scenery and an exciting dive for experienced divers.
The dive usually begins along the reef before descending toward the deeper rock pinnacles. These formations create ledges, small caves and crevices that provide shelter for a wide variety of Mediterranean marine life. Divers frequently encounter moray eels, conger eels, scorpionfish, octopus and colourful nudibranchs, while larger fish such as groupers and schools of bream patrol the reef.
Because of the depth and open water around the pinnacles, Tres Picos can also attract larger pelagic species passing through the area. With depths reaching around 40 metres, this dive is best suited to advanced divers or those with deep diving experience.
The dramatic underwater landscape and clear waters make Tres Picos one of the highlights of scuba diving at Punta de la Mona and the Costa Tropical.
2. Las Calita ( The Cove ) – 25 Mtrs
Las Calita is a beautiful dive site located along the coastline of Punta de la Mona near La Herradura, offering an enjoyable dive across rocky reef formations and sandy seabed. The dive normally begins in relatively shallow water before gradually descending along the reef.
The underwater terrain is made up of large rocks, ledges and small crevices that provide ideal shelter for a wide range of Mediterranean marine life. Divers exploring the reef often encounter octopus, moray eels, scorpionfish and colourful nudibranchs, while schools of bream and other fish move through the area.
With moderate depths and interesting reef formations, Las Calita provides a relaxed but rewarding dive and is a great location to explore when scuba diving at Punta de la Mona and the Costa Tropical.
Nitrox is advised for this dive.
3. Punta de La Mona (Mona’s Point) – 40 Mtrs
Punta de la Mona, also known as Mona’s Point, is one of the most dramatic dive sites along the coastline of La Herradura on the Costa Tropical. Located at the tip of the headland, the site offers impressive underwater terrain with rocky reefs, steep drop-offs and deeper sections that attract a wide variety of Mediterranean marine life.
The dive usually follows the reef line as it slopes into deeper water, where divers can explore rock formations, ledges and small caves that provide shelter for many species. It is common to encounter moray eels, conger eels, scorpionfish, octopus and colourful nudibranchs, while larger fish such as groupers and schools of bream patrol the reef.
Because of the depth and exposed location, Mona’s Point can also experience gentle currents which sometimes bring larger fish through the area. With its dramatic underwater scenery and abundant marine life, this site is considered one of the highlights of scuba diving at Punta de la Mona and La Herradura.
